I was born in the U.S. but left as a small child. I do not believe I should be considered a U.S. citizen. What do I need to do?

In most cases, a child born in the United States automatically acquires U.S. citizenship.

If you have a U.S. place of birth, you must indicate on your self-certification in the digital onboarding journey that you are a U.S. person and provide a U.S. TIN unless you can provide us with:

• A copy of your Certificate of Loss of Nationality of the United States; or
• Documentary evidence explaining why you did not obtain U.S. citizenship at birth i.e. your parents were foreign diplomats at your time of birth.
